“All journalists ask me if the Pope will come to Serbia. Whenever I go for a walk in Belgrade or in any other city in Serbia, everyone asks me the same question, including the members of all churches and religions. They all argue how good it would be if the Pope visited Serbia. My answer to everyone, including you, is to organize round tables and to make an agreement as brothers and sisters”, Hocevar said in an interview with Novi Magazin.
According to the Archbishop of Belgrade, known for its commitment to unite the churches, “divided Christianity is the true scandal in a globalized world.” However, Hocevar did not specify whether the dialogue on this unision will give any results in the near future.
Responding to a question about the relationship between official Belgrade and the Catholic Church, Hocevar argued for nurturing the culture of remembrance: “Especially important is that cultural and educational activities stop repeating that: “We need to fight against the Roman heresy”, as it happened in the feast of St. Sava during the ceremony. How are you going to link this to Vojvodina?
“The official attitude of Belgrade and Serbia towards the Catholic Church is not so much important, as the objective in creating the identity of a nation, and thus the national program and a vision of national development”, the Archbishop said in an interview with Novi Magazin.
