So, something is not right there. When a minimal part of Serbian budget needs to be paid to an ordinary citizen as a salary, the citizen must have an impeccable criminal record, and when someone was buying a huge part of the state capital which financially supports several thousand people, that person was not required to have the same. I heard they have been obliged to the same requirement since 2008. However, at least judging by the statements of politicians themselves, almost all valuable firms were sold by then.
How is it possible that the authorities remembered this “catch” only in case of minor jobs of ordinary people, and it took them eight democratic years to arrange major dealings for, no less than, unusual players in the same way? And they can’t say they didn’t know because it’s quite the opposite. Here, you can see for yourself. As soon as someone gets arrested for a remotely serious offence, his name is put into Google and it all becomes clear. That is a businessman with a suspicious past, he’s done business with all kinds of people, he was making purchases when no one could, he has a house in Dedinje or another elite neighborhood which is glorified in tabloids, etc… It is even worse when you read that he was shot and associated with some clans or God forbid political parties. And even this is not shocking enough, the paper and privatization in Serbia tolerate everything.
And when certain individuals start getting arrested, then you and I and everyone have to listen to the stories how it’s all been done because of the European Union or to cover up the increase of Euro or a large number of layoffs.
Let me remind you, and there is no secret about this, that we are not a member of the European Union because such people are ruining our image, the dinar is getting weaker every day because these same individuals can affect it, and of course, they are the ones who lay people off. That is why I find it hard to listen to the claims that the arrests occurred for the purpose of the electoral campaign as they all sound like the defense of the accused. I can accept it to be a matter of perception or political struggle, but my only answer to such a claim is – so what? Even if that is the case, then this is the only benefit of the elections that I could discern. Everything is put on hold, everyone is waiting for a new round of cards distribution, large businesses are being held back and new promises are constantly being made.
Timing is a problem, but not in terms of the election campaign, but in terms of years. It all should have been done faster and better, as it was all known in advance. Even if you do not know, we do, we read in the papers, just gooole it.
I don’t care if it’s an election campaign or not, I just want to google the name of the controversial businessman in a couple of years and instead of his new folk singer lover to see the names of all the associates, years of sentences and the mandatory information where was the stolen money found. Then we will get to the bottom, those responsible will be in jail and without money, and we will live normally, still without a criminal record.
